Bio: I am rediscovering my home country Romania after having lived most of my life in Canada. While filled with the awe of any foreigner who looks upon these magnificent landscapes and experiences the rich culture, I also relate to the locals on a deeper level. I was born in Romania, making this my very first home. However, having lived away for so long I still have moments where I feel like a foreigner here. With this unique way of seeing Romania, I want to share my rediscovery of this wonderful country. And hopefully one day, you will visit Romania yourself.   7. Hi, and thank you for following me. You are lucky to have such a beautiful, wild heritage. Incidentallly, I know that Fagaras Road. We have a programme over here called ‘Top Gear’ and it was a favorite of the presenters when they wanted to try out their super-cars.

    • Thank you, Frederick. Glad to know you’re hear of the Transfagarasan. Incidentally, I’ve seen the Top Gear filming. 🙂 It’s pretty amazing the way they drove and filmed the road. I tried a similar ride this summer… on my bike. Only downhill, though. It was exhilarating! Let me know if you get a chance to visit Romania 🙂

  9. As a Hungarian-born-Australian, I sort of know what it feels like to be a stranger in the country of your birth. But for me, Hungary isn’t home, Australia is. Are you living permanently in Romania now?

    I was born in Romania too,living in Greece (I m Greek but my heart is half Romanian) for over 30 years!
    Thanks for visiting and follow,I m trying the last two years to write in Romanian so forgive me or the English-next time I ll write in the right language!!!:)

      • I visit often,but unfortunately I was there recently,for my beloved uncle’s funeral….(last week) .But I visit often,yes.There are many places I want to see,I see them in your great pictures!My man fell in love with is country (he is Greek) and he insist more than me to visit Romania!Hope to come back again soon.Feels like home,every time….

  17. So glad to connect with your blog on Romania! We’ve just returned from a trip with Habitat Global Village where we renovated a school in Sector 5 of Bucharest. Of course, we didn’t finish, we made a good start! We love the country, having seen mostly highlights (castles, fortresses, churches, etc.) and parts of Bucharest, but what a great place to visit and live. The people made it special, of course. Thanks for following Oh, the Places We See. Your posts will help us extend our trip by continuing to learn more about Romania!

      • Well, there are so many great places to visit in Romania. The sad part is that even I have not seen all of the beautiful places that the country has to offer. Some of the places that I have visited and I have loved include the Black Sea and all of the different resorts there, Drobeta Trunu Severin, which is my hometown and the Danube River area around Severin, Timisoara, Sibiu, Brasov. The Bran Castle, Transalpina, Transfagarasan are also some really nice places to visit. I heard that Maramures is a very beautiful region, but I have not been there yet. Hopefully, I will get to see that area in the next 1-2 years.

        • Oh, Drobeta Trunu Severin! I was really impressed by the city, having gone there with no expectations and very little knowledge of the area’s history. I really enjoyed seeing all the remains from the Romans. Amazing! I unfortunately have no photos from there to write a post. Guess I’ll have to go again! Your suggestions also remind me that I really want to see the Transalpina Highway when it gets warm. I highly recommend visiting Maramures as soon as you can. It’s gorgeous, the people are warm, and you’d get to see the UNESCO Heritage sites of the Maramures Wooden Churches. Either way, it seems like you’ve seen a lot of places in Romania! Thanks for your suggestions 😀

  20. I recently met someone who was coming from Canada to Romania to discover the country of his parents. I guess he was on holidays, so it probably wasn’t you… 🙂

    • No. Sorry to disappoint, but I’m not a man 🙂 And I’ve been back in Romania for a few years now. But I agree, it would have been fun! Who knows, maybe one day we’ll bump into each other in some corner of Romania. Which part of Romania do you call home?
